Fayette County Jail Roster and Current Population
The Fayette County Detention Center is operated by the LFUCG Division of Community Corrections, a division of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government. It is the primary local jail for Fayette County and serves as the intake point after arrest by Lexington Police, the Fayette County Sheriff, Kentucky State Police, or any other agency with jurisdiction in the county. The facility sits at 600 Old Frankfort Circle in Lexington. The public roster at jail.lexingtonky.gov shows who is currently in custody.
The roster is updated as bookings happen. It is not a delayed daily batch upload. When someone is booked into the facility, their record moves through intake and eventually appears in the live search. That said, LFUCG Division of Community Corrections does not guarantee accuracy, and small delays can occur between physical booking and the online record appearing. Arrest information on the portal reflects charged offenses at the time of booking. Those charges may change, be dropped, or be modified as the case moves through District or Circuit Court. A listing in the current jail population does not mean the person has been convicted of anything. Under Kentucky law, every person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
The portal does not cover state prison inmates, federal inmates, or people on probation or parole in the community. Fayette County Detention Center holds pretrial detainees and people serving short sentences for misdemeanor-level offenses. People convicted of felonies and sentenced to more than 12 months are typically transferred to Kentucky Department of Corrections facilities. Federal defendants charged under federal law go to federal custody entirely outside the FCDC system. The jail roster will not show those individuals.
The LFUCG jail portal at jail.lexingtonky.gov is the official source for current Fayette County inmate records. The screenshot below shows how the search page looks when you open it.
The portal presents two paths: a name/ID search for the full current population, and a quick-view button for anyone booked in the last 48 hours.
How to Use the Fayette County Inmate Roster
The roster at jail.lexingtonky.gov does not require a login or any registration. Open it in any browser. You can search the current jail population by entering a name, an inmate ID, or any combination of the available fields. The portal also offers a separate shortcut to view everyone booked in the last 48 hours without entering any search criteria.
- Go to jail.lexingtonky.gov in your browser.
- Enter the person's last name in the Last Name field. First name and middle name are optional but help narrow results if the last name is common.
- If you know the person's Inmate ID number, enter it instead of or in addition to the name fields.
- Click the search button to run the current jail population query.
- Review the results list. Click a result to view the available profile information.
- If you want to see recent bookings without searching by name, scroll to the "Booked in the Last 48 Hours" section and click the "view inmates" button.
- For bond amounts and current charge details not visible on the portal, call Community Corrections at (859) 425-2700.
You can use any single field or a combination. Entering only a last name returns everyone in custody with that surname. Adding a first name or middle name filters the list. The Inmate ID search is the most precise option when you have that number. Note: Misuse of the information found through the portal is a criminal offense under Kentucky law and may result in account suspension or investigation by LFUCG.
The LFUCG Community Corrections page explains the division's role in running the Fayette County Detention Center and lists the services available to inmates and families.
Community Corrections lists its popular services as depositing funds, inmate information, hiring, open records requests, VINE information, and visitation scheduling.
Fayette County Jail Search Fields
The jail portal uses a straightforward set of fields. None of them are required on their own, which means you can enter as little as a last name and still get results. The table below lists every field on the search form as it appears on the live site.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes / Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| Last Name | Text | Optional | Use any or all fields; not all fields must be filled. |
| First Name | Text | Optional | Narrows results when last name is common. |
| Middle Name | Text | Optional | Further filters by middle name or initial. |
| Inmate ID | Text | Optional | Most precise lookup; use exact ID if known. |
| Search (button) | Button | N/A | Runs query against current jail population. |
| Booked in the Last 48 Hours | Section / action | Optional | Alternative path to name/ID search; no input needed. |
| View Inmates (button) | Button | N/A | Shows the last-48-hours booking list without entering any name. |
The "OR" divider on the page makes it clear that the name/ID search and the 48-hour booking list are two separate ways to access the same underlying population data. Use the name search when you know who you are looking for. Use the 48-hour list when you want to see all recent bookings in Fayette County without targeting a specific person.
What the Fayette County Inmate Search Returns
The LFUCG inmate information page describes what the public portal is designed to show and what requires a phone call. The table below lists the known profile fields and what each one means. Some fields may show directly in search results; others require calling (859) 425-2700 for complete detail.
| Field | What It Shows |
|---|---|
| Name | Full name as entered at booking; searchable by last, first, and middle name. |
| Inmate ID | Unique booking or detention number assigned at intake; used for mail addressing and fund deposits. |
| Current Custody Status | Whether the person is currently in the jail population at FCDC. |
| Booked in Last 48 Hours | Flag or list indicator showing the person was recently booked; visible through the separate 48-hour view. |
| Charges | Charged offenses as recorded at booking. Available by phone at (859) 425-2700; may appear in portal results when the API returns data. Reflects booking status only, not final court disposition. |
| Bond Information | Bond amount if set. Available by phone. Verify current bond status with Fayette District or Circuit Court for the most up-to-date figure. |
| Court Verification Note | LFUCG states accuracy should be verified with Fayette District and Circuit Courts; the portal is a booking record, not a court record. |
Mugshots, demographic details such as date of birth or height and weight, and specific housing unit assignments were not confirmed as publicly visible fields based on the inspected portal. Do not expect those fields to appear in every search result. For confirmed profile data beyond custody status and name, a phone call to the facility is the reliable path.
The LFUCG inmate information page covers mail rules, video visitation rates, and the phone line for charge and bond detail.
The inmate information page is a practical first stop for families, listing the Smart Communications mail address, video visit rates, and the direct line for charge and bond verification.
What the Jail Roster Does and Does Not Prove
A name appearing in the Fayette County jail roster means that person is currently detained at the Fayette County Detention Center and has not yet been released or transferred. It does not mean the person has been found guilty of anything. Charges listed at booking are allegations. A court has not yet weighed the evidence at that point. Kentucky law is plain on this: every person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until the prosecution proves guilt beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
The roster also does not prove the opposite. If a person's name does not appear in the current jail population, that does not mean no arrest occurred. The person may have been booked and released on bond. They may have paid a cash bond at the 24/7 District Criminal/Traffic Division window. They may have been transferred to state or federal custody. Data entry lags, corrections by court staff, and transfers to other facilities can all cause a name to drop from the roster while the person remains in some form of legal jeopardy. Always verify a current custody status by calling Community Corrections at (859) 425-2700 if the roster result is not what you expected.
Verifying charges and case outcomes requires a separate step. The Fayette Circuit Court Clerk handles felony and Family Court case files. The District Court division handles misdemeanor, traffic, and preliminary-hearing records. Neither court's records are available through the jail portal. For underlying criminal records and court case history, contact the clerk's office or use the KYeCourts system. Active warrant records are a separate search from the jail roster and are handled through the Fayette County Sheriff's office.
Note: LFUCG states that misuse of public jail data is a criminal offense punishable by law and may result in account suspension or investigation.Fayette County Detention Center Contact
The Fayette County Detention Center is the only local jail facility for the county. It is managed entirely by LFUCG Division of Community Corrections, not by the Fayette County Sheriff. The Sheriff's office provides court security, warrant work, and victim services but does not operate a separate jail. All local pretrial detention and short-term sentenced custody for Fayette County runs through 600 Old Frankfort Circle.

Administrative Hours:
Monday–Thursday: 9 a.m.–5 p.m.
Friday: 8 a.m.–4 p.m.
The administrative phone line at (859) 425-2700 handles questions about current inmates, bond amounts, current charges, and family contact during office hours. For after-hours family emergencies, call the same number and ask to speak with a shift commander. The chaplain is also reachable during normal business hours at the same number for family-related matters.
The District Criminal/Traffic Division at 150 North Limestone, first floor, is open 24/7 and processes bail bonds and cash payments for prepayable citations. That office is separate from the Detention Center itself but is part of the same local justice system that handles newly booked individuals before they are assigned to a housing unit at FCDC.
Booking Process in Fayette County
After an arrest in Fayette County, the typical path runs from the arresting officer, whether that is Lexington Police, the Fayette County Sheriff, Kentucky State Police, or another agency, to transport to the Fayette County Detention Center for intake and booking. Booking involves recording the person's name, date of birth, and identifying information, plus the charged offenses as the arresting officer recorded them. The person is searched, personal property is secured, and a booking or inmate ID number is assigned. That ID is what appears in the jail roster search and is also used for mail addressing and fund deposits.
After booking, the person is held for a first appearance before a Fayette District Court judge, which typically happens within 24 hours. At first appearance, the judge reviews the charges, advises the defendant of rights, and sets or denies bond. Bond can be cash, property, or a commercial surety. When bond is posted, the person is released from FCDC custody and will no longer appear in the current jail population. If bond is denied or cannot be paid, the person remains at FCDC and continues to appear in the roster while the case proceeds through the court system.
Cases involving felony charges stay in the roster longer because they go through preliminary hearings in District Court before indictment in Circuit Court. Misdemeanor and traffic cases are handled entirely within District Court. At any stage, a court order, plea agreement, or sentencing decision can change custody status. The roster reflects the current moment only.
Visitation at the Fayette County Detention Center
All inmate visitation at the Fayette County Detention Center is done by video. In-person visits are not allowed under normal circumstances. LFUCG policy is that all visits occur through a secure video visitation system, either on-site at the facility or remotely from any location with an internet connection. This policy applies to family, friends, and non-legal visitors. Attorney and legal visits operate under separate rules.
Exceptions to the no-in-person rule are considered case by case for verified family emergencies or significant family events. Any exception must be approved in advance by facility administration. To request an exception or to schedule any type of video visit, contact Sergeant Dwayne Tyree at (859) 425-2624 or by email at dtyree@lexingtonky.gov. The LFUCG visitation page links to SmartInmate for remote video scheduling.
| Visit Type | Availability | Cost / Rate | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| On-site video | Available at facility | Free | Conducted through on-site video terminals; no charge per LFUCG rate table. |
| Remote video | Available from any location | $0.10 per minute | SmartVisit platform; schedule through SmartInmate or contact Sgt. Tyree. |
| On-demand remote video | Available | $0.10 per minute | Same per-minute rate as scheduled remote video. |
| In-person visit | Not normally permitted | N/A | Emergencies/significant events only; must be approved in advance by facility administration. |
The visitation page confirms that on-site video visits are free and remote visits run $0.10 per minute, and it provides Sgt. Tyree's direct contact for scheduling or emergency in-person requests.
Sending Mail to a Fayette County Inmate
Regular mail no longer goes to the Detention Center address directly. Starting January 1, 2025, all regular postal mail must go to a Smart Communications processing center in Florida, where it is scanned and delivered to inmates at postal mail kiosks inside the facility. Mail sent to the old facility address after that date is returned to the sender, with one exception: legal mail still goes to the facility itself.
The correct mailing address for regular correspondence is:
Regular Mail Address
Smart Communications / Lexington-Fayette Co.
Inmate Full Name + Inmate Number (example: Adam Smith #123456)
PO Box 9198
Seminole, FL 33775-9198
The inmate's full name and booking or ID number must be clearly printed on the outside of the envelope or postcard. An example format from LFUCG is: Adam Smith #123456. Do not use a return address at the old Lexington facility address for regular mail. For legal mail such as attorney correspondence, court documents, or official government mail, send directly to the Fayette County Detention Center at 600 Old Frankfort Circle, Lexington, KY 40510.
All regular mail is scanned at the Smart Communications facility before being made available to the inmate at the kiosk. Inmates read their mail on the kiosk screen rather than receiving physical paper. This change affects all personal letters, cards, and non-legal correspondence. It does not affect how attorneys communicate with their clients in custody.
Commissary and Money Deposits at FCDC
Inmates at the Fayette County Detention Center can order commissary once per week. The spending limit per order is $100. Friends and family members can order commissary items on the inmate's behalf through My Care Pack, with delivery timed to the inmate's normal commissary delivery day. Community Corrections manages the commissary program as part of its broader inmate services operation.
Depositing money into an inmate's account can be done three ways. First, lobby kiosks at the front of the Detention Center are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Funds deposited at a kiosk are available to the inmate within 30 minutes. Kiosks accept cash, debit cards, and credit cards. Money orders are no longer accepted at the kiosks. Second, online deposits can be made through My Care Pack or Access Corrections using a debit or credit card. Third, phone deposits are accepted by calling 1-866-394-0490 with a credit or debit card ready. A nominal service fee applies to all non-cash deposit methods.
Phone calls from the jail are handled through Securus Technologies. Collect calls bill the person being called. Debit calls draw from funds in the inmate's commissary account. To set up voicemail so family can leave a message for an inmate, contact Correctional Billing Services at 1-800-844-6591 or visit securustech.net. Securus also offers an email messaging option, which works through the same account system as phone calls.
Refunds of inmate account funds follow a set schedule. During the first seven days of incarceration, inmates can release funds to family or friends during inmate accounts office business hours with a valid picture ID. After the seven-day window, releasing funds to a third party requires special circumstances and must be approved by the Director or a designee. When an inmate is released, remaining funds can be picked up in person during normal business hours with a picture ID. For former inmates who live more than 75 miles from the Detention Center, LFUCG can mail the refund if they receive a notarized letter from the former inmate listing the inmate's name, date of birth, Social Security number, and mailing address.
Inmate Programs and Services at FCDC
The Fayette County Detention Center offers several programs for people in custody, managed through LFUCG Community Corrections. These programs serve both the immediate needs of detainees and longer-term goals around reentry and stability after release. The LFUCG inmate programs and resources page lists the full range of services offered at the facility.
- GED preparation and educational services
- Drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs
- Job skills training
- Parenting skills classes
- Religious services and chaplain access
- Recreation and physical activity
- Laundry services
Inmate services counselors are also available to help people in custody navigate their options, connect with resources, and plan for release. These counselors are part of the Community Corrections staff at FCDC. Anyone seeking information about a specific program for a detained family member can ask about it during a call to (859) 425-2700 during administrative hours.
The LFUCG inmate programs page covers commissary services, Securus phone and email, voicemail setup, refund procedures, and the full list of educational and support programs.
The programs page confirms that FCDC offers GED prep, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, job training, parenting classes, and chaplain-supported religious services alongside practical inmate account services.
Verifying Charges Through Fayette District and Circuit Court
The jail roster shows charges as entered at booking. Those charges are the arresting agency's initial allegations, not a court's finding. Between booking and the resolution of a case, charges often change. A prosecutor may file different charges than the booking officer entered. A grand jury may return a lesser or greater indictment. A judge may dismiss counts. A plea agreement may resolve everything before trial. None of those changes automatically update the jail roster in real time. The roster is a booking snapshot, not a running case docket.
To get the current status of a case, contact the relevant clerk's office. Felony cases and Family Court matters go through the Fayette Circuit Court Clerk at the Robert F. Stephens Circuit Courthouse, 120 North Limestone. Misdemeanor, traffic, and preliminary-hearing records are at the District Court Clerk at 150 North Limestone. The clerk can confirm what charges are in the case file, what hearings are scheduled, and whether any bond modifications have been ordered by a judge. The KYeCourts system at kcoj.kycourts.net also provides electronic case access for registered users. Underlying criminal records from prior cases are a separate request from current jail roster data.
Bond amounts in particular can change quickly. A judge may reduce, increase, or revoke bond at any point before final disposition. The bond figure on the jail portal may be days old. Always call Community Corrections at (859) 425-2700 to confirm the current bond amount before sending a bail bondsman or attempting to post cash bond.
KOOL, VINE, and the Fayette Jail Search Compared
The Fayette County jail roster at jail.lexingtonky.gov, Kentucky's KOOL offender search, and VINELink each serve different purposes. Knowing which tool fits your question saves time. The jail roster shows only people currently held at FCDC. KOOL shows Kentucky state DOC offenders, including people in state prisons, on probation, or on parole in the community. VINE is a notification service, not a search tool in the same way.
KOOL (Kentucky Online Offender Lookup) at kool.corrections.ky.gov is run by the Kentucky Department of Corrections. It covers people serving sentences in state prisons and those under community supervision such as probation and parole. KOOL does not cover people held at county jails like FCDC who have not yet been sentenced to state custody. If a person was convicted of a felony and sent to a state prison, KOOL is the right tool. If they are still at the Fayette County Detention Center awaiting trial or serving a short sentence, KOOL will not list them.
VINELink at vinelink.com is a notification and status lookup system. It pulls data from jails, prisons, and mental health facilities and lets registered users receive automated alerts when a person's custody status changes. To check custody status through VINELink, select Kentucky, then search by name or offender ID. To set up release notifications, register a phone number or email address and create a four-digit PIN. VINELink will call or message you when the person's custody status changes, such as a release, transfer, or escape. VINE does not show active warrants. For recently released inmates and the tools to track them, see the released inmates page.
Note: KOOL data may lag up to 120 days for newly added records; DOC updates daily but does not guarantee all entries are current.Open Records Requests for Jail Records
Some jail records beyond what the public portal shows may be available through a formal open records request under the Kentucky Open Records Act. Community Corrections has its own open records process separate from the court clerk. The request form is available through LFUCG's online form system. Requests must describe the records sought with enough specificity for Community Corrections staff to locate them. LFUCG will respond within five business days.
The Community Corrections open records request form lets you submit a records request directly to LFUCG Division of Community Corrections for jail-related records not available through the public portal.
The form routes your request to the correct LFUCG custodian for detention and Community Corrections records, separate from court clerk open records channels.
For court records related to a criminal case, the open records request goes to the Fayette Circuit Court Clerk, not Community Corrections. The two offices maintain separate record sets. Booking records and jail logs belong to Community Corrections. Case files, dockets, and court orders belong to the Circuit Court Clerk. Sending a request to the wrong office causes delays. If you are not sure which office holds the record you need, call (859) 425-2700 for jail records or the Circuit Court Clerk at 120 North Limestone for court case files. Active warrant records are maintained separately by the Fayette County Sheriff and are not part of either the jail or court clerk systems. For broader inmate population data, the jail portal and LFUCG administrative reports are the primary sources.
